How to Log in to Your My Service Canada Account

If you want to update personal information relating to employment insurance (EI) reporting online in Canada, you need to know how to log in to your My Service Canada Account (MSCA). Fortunately, this is a relatively straightforward process.

What Is MSCA?

Service Canada provides MSCA. The MSCA portal lets you access and update your information relating to three products:

EI: A Canadian insurance program providing temporary financial aid to someone who has lost a job.
Canada pension plan (CPP): An earnings-related insurance program that pays contributors a portion of their lost earnings following retirement, disability or death.
Old age security (OAS): A monthly payment available to anyone age 65 and older who meets the Canadian legal status and residence requirements.

How to Register with MSCA

My Service Canada Account EI, CPP and OAS services are all accessible from the same online portal. To get started accessing these features, you first need to register your details. There are two ways to register:

Personal access code (PAC): The PAC is a seven-digit access code granted by Service Canada. You get a code by applying online, visiting a Service Canada Center or calling 800-277-9914 during weekdays.
EI access code: If you're receiving EI, you have an EI number that works instead of a PAC.

Once you have one of these codes, visit the MSCA home page, select the "Register" option and then follow the onscreen instructions. After registering, access your account by selecting the "Sign In" option on the home page.

Logging In with Sign-in Partners

There are two ways to log in to your account when you select "Sign In." The first method involves using the log-in details from one of MSCA's sign-in partners. If you use any of the following services, use the same log-in details to access MSCA:

Logging In with GCKey

If you don't use any of the Sign-in Partner businesses, it's possible to create a GCKey instead. Your GCKey provides simple and secure access to a range of Government of Canada online services, so you don't need to remember multiple login details.

Avoiding Technical Problems

Whenever you access services online, there's a chance of a technical error. While rare, such errors are often inconvenient; but there are several steps to take to minimize the risk the next time you log in to MSCA:

While it's okay to bookmark the MSCA home page, don't bookmark any pages after you log in. You should always log in following the correct procedure.
Use an up-to-date browser, such as the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. If you experience poor performance through your browser, check for a software update.
